Inheritance Tax is normally paid on an estate when somebody dies. The threshold for Inheritance Tax is currently £312,000 (2008/09). You only need to pay Inheritance Tax if your inherited estate is valued over this figure. Inheritance Tax is payable at 40% of the amount over this threshold.
